As the Rio Olympic games came to an end last night during the closing ceremonies, the torch was passed from Brazil to Japan. Tokyo will host the 2020 Olympic games and they are already getting us hyped.
Japan’s video for their upcoming Olympics gave spotlight to Hello Kitty, Pac Man, and Mario. We also learned that Mario is in fact Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in disguise. This new twist was revealed when Mr. Abe popped out of a giant green pipe dressed as the character.
Earlier yesterday I watched the wrestling finals and witness coaches from Mongolia strip down to their underwear after an unexpected defeat that cost them the bronze metal. So when Mario appeared and began taking off his clothing, I was a little worried that he was about to go full-Mongolia. Luckily, it was just Prime Minister Abe pandering to us nerds and getting ready for what looks like a pretty insane 2020 Olympics.
Tokyo is boasting of turning up the tech at their games. According to CNN, Japan’s robotics industry is meant to take center stage in four years, from robot hotel helpers to robotic taxis. Tokyo will also build a new stadium that is being marketed as an architectural feet to stand out among the cities already structurally-heavy skyline.
