Monthly Wrap is my monthly post about recent happenings and things I’m loving or just feel like sharing. In other words, whatever happens to be taking up space in my brain. Here’s where my head has been lately:
Science-Fiction Writing Class
At the beginning of the month I started a six-week Science-Fiction Writing Workshop through Emory University, part of a Creative Writing program I began over the summer. While I’ve taken other writing classes, it has been so enjoyable to take a course focussed on speculative fiction, which is much of what I write.
Anything and everything Halloween
From decorating around the house to listening to the Halloween Party playlist on Pandora to Halloweeny events, I’ve been embracing Halloween more than normal this year. I’m not usually one for scary, but I’ve been watching The Haunting of Hill House and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix, both of which are great. I even read an H.P. Lovecraft short story the other day- yep, that’s how committed I am this year.
Emma Approved, Season Two
While I haven’t watched it yet, the second season of this YouTube web series premiered this month, five years after the first season (crazy). The series is a modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. If that sounds like your cup of tea, check it out.
The Wise Man’s Fear
This is the second book in Patrick Rothfuss’ layered Kingkiller Chronicles series. It has been on my to-read list for a couple years and so far I’m enjoying it even more than the first book.
Rockin’ the Vote
I voted early here in Georgia and, if you live in the U.S., you should exercise your right to do the same!
Atlanta is always a late bloomer (no pun intended) when it comes to the colder seasons, but the leaves are finally changing. Red leaves, yellow leaves, orange leaves- all sprinkled through our many trees; some still have green leaves, while other trees are rapidly shedding. I love them all! Now all I need is a plaid scarf and a pumpkin spice latte to fully become the most basic human being ever… just kidding! There is also this delicate sweet smell in the air in Atlanta. I haven’t been able to identify what is blooming or producing this smell, but it makes being outdoors magical this time of year.
