Goodbye, 2018… or It’s Been a Year Already?

What to say about a year that was more transition than tangible growth? There were a number of fun events along the way- travel, the new things I tried and sprang up in my life, but overall 2018 was more of a roundabout of self-reflection that seemed play on a loop. In the end, I think I’ve finally reflected myself into some discoveries, which means 2019 will be about prioritizing these discoveries.

Part of the reason for this static year is that my work schedule stayed the same for the entirety of it, which is unusual for me. I think it’s actually the first time I’ve ever had a regular work schedule for this long without variation in times or days. I work in broadcast news production and my schedule is at night. So, the year felt a little monotonous in that way, leaving me restless at times.

The upside of the constant schedule, and free time during the day, is that it gave me the opportunity to develop a semi-regular routine for my creative projects- i.e., writing fiction and working on Neptune Your Dial. This blog has seen a lot of growth this year, which I am extremely proud of and thankful for the outlet to connect with like-minded people. I took a couple creative writing workshops and wrote a handful of short stories as well as half of a novel, which I’m currently finishing before me next writing class starts in a few weeks.

The constancy in my full-time job provided a lot of room for the aforementioned reflection. I found myself asking, What to do next in my career? Where am I going from here? Am I on the right path? What is going to provide the most fulfillment and purpose in my life? These questions cycled ad nauseam. I’ve come to some conclusions about where I would be happiest, but know it will take dedication and hardwork to get there.

I’m clearly trying to frame this year in a positive way despite some inner struggles. It was not a bad year, though, or uneventful. It was just, I don’t know, how things go sometimes. Regardless, there were plenty of happy moments and things worth noting.
